Settling-In Services

Settling in New Zealand: the house is ready before you land

Most settling-in services begin once you have arrived. Ours works in reverse: the search, viewing, lease, furnishing and utilities are completed before you board. You move in on the day you land.

BEFOREBefore arrival: house, lease, furniture
DAY 1Arrival day: airport pickup, move in
AFTERAfter: school and local connections
Before You Land

Settling-in starts while you're still overseas

This is the biggest difference between us and most agencies: the house, the furniture and the utilities are ready before you land.

BEFORE ARRIVAL

Before you arrive

The goal: a home you can move straight into the day you land.

  • Choosing the area by school zone and budget
We work outwards from your child's school, not backwards from a house.
  • Viewing on your behalf
We attend in person, film it and report the condition, so you can decide from overseas.
  • Lease application and terms explained
We submit the application and go through the terms clause by clause before you sign.
  • Furniture and appliances
Beds, sofa, dining table, fridge, washing machine — selected to your budget, ordered, delivered and installed. Goods are charged at cost.
  • Power and internet connection
Fibre installation has a queue, so we apply early and you have internet the day you move in.
ARRIVAL DAY

On arrival day

The goal: get you safely to the home that's already waiting.

  • Airport pickup
Declare food and medicines honestly — New Zealand biosecurity checks are thorough.
  • Straight in
House, furniture and utilities are all in place. No hotel stay in between.
  • SIM card and transport card
Auckland uses AT HOP, valid on buses, trains and ferries.
  • A handover of the practical things
Supermarkets, Asian grocers, transport and what's nearby, all explained on arrival.
AFTER ARRIVAL

Once you're here

The goal: moving from housed to settled.

  • School enrolment
Contacting the school, confirming the start date and what to bring, and explaining uniforms, stationery and the parent communication system.
  • Bank account (help with the online application)
Most banks allow online applications. We help with the form and prepare passport, visa and proof of address. Identity verification at a branch is done in person.
  • Building a routine
Supermarkets, Asian groceries, community activities, other parents.
  • Following up after term starts
Whether your child is keeping up, and whether a subject change or extra support is needed. We keep watching.

What We Do

What the service covers

And I found out later that the help you really need isn't only before you leave.

Once you're here, that's when life actually starts.

From Mrs Chen's letter | Read it in full →

Take the whole package or only the parts you want. At the first consultation we ask which pieces you'd rather do yourself.

How it's chargedWe charge aservice fee for arranging and coordinating. Everything bought or supplied by a third party — furniture, appliances, utilities, cleaning, removals, government fees — ischarged at cost. We arrange it and give you the receipts. We don't mark it up.

Tax registration (IRD), enrolling with a GP and converting a Taiwanese driver's licence are personal matters and sit outside the service, though we'll remind you when each is due.
HOUSING

Searching and viewing

Areas chosen by school location and budget. We view in person and send film back, so you can decide before you leave.

LEASE

Lease application

Submitting the application, explaining the terms clause by clause, and handling the deposit and bond correctly.

HOME SETUP

Furniture, appliances and utilities

Furniture and appliances chosen to budget, ordered, delivered and installed; power and internet applied for in advance so they work the day you move in. Goods and third-party services at cost.

ARRIVAL

Pickup and moving in

Airport pickup, straight into the prepared house, help with a SIM and transport card, and a handover of what's nearby.

SCHOOL

Starting school

Liaising with the school and arranging enrolment, explaining uniforms and stationery, how the parent association and communication system work, and following up after term starts.

COMMUNITY

Local connections

Other parents, church and community activities, job resources, and our own client gatherings. Loneliness is the most underrated difficulty of arriving.

Videos

After arrival, in practice

Settling-in sounds abstract, but the process can be watched. Below, families who have already moved talk about the road from application to arrival, and an exchange activity we arranged afterwards.

Filmed or recorded by us. The content reflects each speaker's own experience and each school's circumstances at the time; courses, places and fees are as published by each school at the time you apply. The player loads only when you click. More videos in thevideo section of the blog.

FAQ

Settling-in questions

Is the house found before I arrive?

Yes.This is the biggest difference between us and most settling-in services. We narrow the area by your child's school and your budget, view the property in person and send film back so you can decide from overseas. Once you've chosen, we submit the application and explain the lease clause by clause. You move straight in on arrival — no hotel in between.

How do I choose a house from the other side of the world?

With eyes on the ground, not photographs.Listing photos and the real thing often differ. Light, noise, damp and the actual commute don't show up in a photograph. We film, measure and report on the surroundings, so what you see is the property rather than the marketing.

Can you handle furniture and appliances too?

Yes.Beds, sofa, dining table, fridge, washing machine — chosen to your budget, ordered, delivered and installed. Power and internet are applied for in advance; fibre installation here often has a queue, and leaving it until you land can mean waiting weeks.

Is settling-in charged separately, and how?

We charge a service fee for arranging and coordinating. Third-party costs are passed through at cost.Furniture, appliances, utilities, cleaning and removals are arranged by us, invoiced at the actual amount, with receipts and no mark-up. The service itself is itemised — take all of it or part of it. If you're also using our immigration or study services, some items are included in the package. We set the fee structure out at the first consultation.

Do you handle IRD numbers, GP registration and licence conversion?

These are personal matters and sit outside the service. An IRD number must be applied for by you, a GP enrolled with by you, and a licence converted by you. We'll remind you when each is due but we don't do them for you. Our effort is better spent on the things you can't do from overseas — searching, viewing, the lease, furniture and utilities.
